An Idiot Exposed
James Martin, a TV chef seems to think that it is funny to drive cyclists off the road. Let us hope that the police take an interest in his confession. Do not watch this man on the television any more.

Club 4-up
In fact it was the 30th year of the club 4-up with the first promotion being held on 7 August 1979 over 50km based on the Brighton Road with the brutal climbs of Bolney and Handcross in the last 5 miles! Here, from left to right, Ev Quistorff, Nick Dunkley and Mick Sutton cross the finish line with a 1-21-50.

On the 4 July 1984 we returned our fastest time on the Brighton Road course with a 1-18-35; the team comprising of (from left to right)Ev Quistorff, Rob Douglas, Ray Swetman and John Aitken (on the back as usual!)

Kennet and Avon Ride in Doubt for 2010
Denbo is upset. He says that he does not like to complain but he is questioning as to whether or not he is going to go on the Kennet and Avon ride as the driver again if the transport issue has not been satisfactorily resolved. He does not mind doing the bag drop and riding out to meet the ride on the towpath before leading the ride to the hotel in triumph, or having to share a room with Paul Martin. But the vehicle that he had to drive was not up to standard in 2009. Things got even worse when a bunch of Hari-Krishna followers and Thuggee assassins wanting a lift jumped him somewhere near Pewsey: it was the constant chanting that did his head in. Also Paul White has to cut down on his wardrobe, cosmetics and perfumes because Denbo does not want to pull a dangerous trailer again.
If this can be sorted out by the next ride in 2010 Denbo will be glad to help out without complaint as usual.

Hello Old Friends
Well I tried to slip back in unseen but without luck. Paul "Face Break" Martin saw fit to take the micky out of my name. And to think that I was going to let him have a few of my old beer glasses too. He'll have to grovel now.
It was nice to be out riding with you lot again last Saturday. Mr Green took us up "accident hill" where Mick Sutton joined previous crash victims, bomber Harris and Bob himself, on the deck in the mud and the blood and the beer. I got my nice red retro Roberts dirty and was not happy!
It was good to see MOB out looking as cool as a cucumber on the climbs: nothing has changed there then!
I hope to see some of you next Sunday.

Helmets
I've had an enquiry from another club asking do we have any rules (or views) about making the wearing of hard shell helmets compulsory on club social rides (ie not racing) and did we know of other clubs' rules about this matter. I said we didn't and I gave my opinion that I didn't think we should but it would be a good idea to canvass opinion and the experience of others more widely. What do you think?
