Sky's first win
Congratulations on Sky's first win at the Cancer Council Helpline Classic in Adelaide, it's a mixed bag for us as viewers though. The Tour Down Under which starts on Tuesday and was on Eurosport last year but not now, how much cycling is going to migrate to Sky Sport? On the plus side though the Team Sky website is good, you can watch extended highlights from the race.

2009 Freewheel Champion
Six riders contested the freewheeling contest on the Tilburstow to South Godstaone course last Sunday. It was won by a big bloke as usual on a steel bike, because as we all know light carbon bikes do not go down hill very fast at all.
However there were complaints issued regarding the way that Paul White won the contest. This was based on the fact that he loaded his bike up with a handlebar bag to ensure the greatest momentum. I took this into account but dismissed it. This has nothing to do with Paul promising to pay for my drinks at his wife's jazz gig on the following Sunday......
Two riders made it onto the main road with Trevor Hughes joining Paul White in cresting the ridge. Well done to the pair of them. The good folk of Godstaone were not happy though, as they had drained the pond in anticipation of Denbo starting the event and making it (nothing to do with being a fat git) into the village: they didn't want their pond polluted!

Who will win the Tour de France?
Well, our first ever poll 'Who will win the Giro?' only got five votes but one person guessed right. Can you guess who will win the Tour? Look at the list on the right and cast your vote (let me know if I have left your favourite out). I'm going for Andy Schleck - it'll be good to have a new winner.

Giro Poll Results
Well, our first ever poll 'Who will win the Giro' only got five votes! Two for Leipheimer, two for Basso and one for Denis Menchov, whoever got that right let us know and start thinking about the Tour. We can have polls on all sorts of things (humorous, competitive or serious), so if you would like to air a concern and get some feedback let me know.

Woking Workplace Challenge/Tour Series
I helped out the CTC on their Woking Workplace Challenge (I'll write it up for the newsletter), preceeding the Woking Tour Series Round last night and who should I meet but Geraldine and Ana. Woking was staging a one day cycling festival to support become a designated Cycling Town, Geraldine and Ana were selling Ana's clothing and accessories (www.ananichoola.co.uk). I really liked the bike-part jewellery but look at the website as it's bursting with ideas!
"Have you got anything in carbon fibre?...."
Rapha go on the attack
"Have you got anything in carbon fibre?...."After an interesting day on the Workplace Challenge, it was time it was time to watch the racing. A great race in perfect weather was won by Dean Downing (how??? - it was so fast I didn't think anyone would get away). It was great to see a high quality circuit racing series again and brought back memories of the working on Kellogg's City Centre Cycling with Alan Rushton in the 80's. The difference between then and now is that cycling seems to be ticking so many boxes - sporting excellence, green credentials, health concerns, fashion, cost - it really has become a lifestyle choice that can be increasingly embraced by non-cyclists.
Rapha go on the attackDoes anyone fancy going up to the Smithfield Nocturne (http://www.nocturneseries.com/smithfield/) on Saturday evening? If so let me know...

Not the last chance to vote on this weeks poll!
I have extended the poll (below left) by a week. You can vote for more than one rider; who voted for Menchov - own up! The jury is out on the winner of the race, after the first week there is no decisive leader... is Armstrong bluffing again?
Maybe the poll winner can win something? (A club bandana, Mick?) - if that prize is thought to be too grand then maybe we could have a poll on each of the three Grand Tours and award the coveted bandana to those with the best score! Let me know what you think...
