The results for the first attempt at using the blog to sort out who was doing which weekend run was mixed. A few who already had accounts left comments as to what they were doing and why they couldn't make it. Some opened a Google account to allow them to comment and did so. Some managed to comment without setting up a google account and one commented by email.
I have set up the blog now do that you can comment without signing-in to Google, just look at the blog and comment by hitting the comment link to the right of the 'Posted by...'. Type your comment in the box provided and then where it says 'Comment as: select profile', choose 'Name/URL' from the drop down menu, type in your name and then hit the 'Post comment' button. I have chosen the 'Moderate Comments' option which means that I need to check and pass each comment before I allow it to be published, I will update the site at the end of each day so keep it current.
I know it seems a bit complicated but once you have done it once or twice it will become second nature!

Weekend Rides 4-5th July 2009 Test
An experiment to see if we can clarify who is going out on which ride at the weekend. There are a variety of ways of getting the info onto the blog, the best way would be to 'comment' and people can simply read the comments on the friday before the ride (I am normally in on a friday night to check the site).
Lets give it a try and see what happens, you can send any suggestions to me for improving the service. I think it will help to assess who can lead the rides, if we need a fast group as well, if there are any beginners out etc...

Who will win the Tour de France?
Well, our first ever poll 'Who will win the Giro?' only got five votes but one person guessed right. Can you guess who will win the Tour? Look at the list on the right and cast your vote (let me know if I have left your favourite out). I'm going for Andy Schleck - it'll be good to have a new winner.

Giro Poll Results
Well, our first ever poll 'Who will win the Giro' only got five votes! Two for Leipheimer, two for Basso and one for Denis Menchov, whoever got that right let us know and start thinking about the Tour. We can have polls on all sorts of things (humorous, competitive or serious), so if you would like to air a concern and get some feedback let me know.

Not the last chance to vote on this weeks poll!
I have extended the poll (below left) by a week. You can vote for more than one rider; who voted for Menchov - own up! The jury is out on the winner of the race, after the first week there is no decisive leader... is Armstrong bluffing again?
Maybe the poll winner can win something? (A club bandana, Mick?) - if that prize is thought to be too grand then maybe we could have a poll on each of the three Grand Tours and award the coveted bandana to those with the best score! Let me know what you think...

Double-click on photos...
Hi all...
I've been tidying up(?) the blog, (apologies if I've missed anything), and I'm about a third of the way through it. Just in case you didn't know, if you double-click on photos it opens them up at a larger size in a new page. Please let me know if you have comments/requests!

Blogging!
Blogging is one way of broadcasting on the web. It is a series of 'posts' and 'comments' about a common theme (ie Clarencourt Cycling Club). You can 'post' a story onto the blog and get then get 'comments' back about it. The 'comments' are linked to the 'post' and so anybody reading the post can see the history of the conversation. Rather than 'comment' you could 'post' a reply yourself which could then get 'comments'.
An example: I will 'post' information about the proposed 'Guildford-Brighton-Guildford' day out on the blog. The advantage to me is that I can put a wide range of material about it and then wait for people's questions (or 'comments'). The questions (ie, can I use a touring bike for the trip?) will be seen by anybody prompting them to ask further questions that in turn will be seen by everybody and so we can organise the event in a very organic way.
The trick is to get people used to looking at the blog every week or even every day if there is a lot going on. A 'post' can be text, images, both, links to interesting sites or articles, video..etc the list is extensive. The blog supplements the newsletter and the website and also, to a certain extent; email, telephone, face-to-face contact, club nights and 'word of mouth' - although this is a quite a list of ways of contacting people it is clear that different methods will suit different people in different situations (we haven't even mentioned Facebook yet! but it may be worth considering a page if we want to attract new and younger members).
Have a go (see below), and don't be worried if it 'goes wrong'. If you have any problems let me know and I'll go through it with you. Lastly, you need to ensure that if there is anyone in the club without access to a computer that they might be interested in hearing about what is going on to - don't forget about them.

Trevor in France
Hi Mick
Hope you all had a good holiday in the Lot.
The Blogger I think is the best way of contact because the email takes too long to down load.
You need to check with Bob about leading the MTB ride next Sunday.

This is a start for the Clarencourt Blog
Well here we go. I'm due to visit Sarah on Tuesday to discuss the 2007 updating of the Clarencourt's website and including a blog is one of our agreed aims so I've set this up or think I have. I'm going to try to add an image now. This is the new image I've chosen for the Home Page.
